Professional Master in Environment and Sustainability

The Professional Master's in Environment and Sustainability has an interdisciplinary approach aimed at professionals from diverse fields, who will develop work with practical applications to address socio-environmental demands. The program aims to train professionals at an advanced technical and scientific level, capable of acting in the diagnosis, prevention, resolution, and integrated management of environmental problems, seeking to maintain and/or improve socio-environmental quality at local, regional, and national levels.
To be a reference in the generation of knowledge and technologies committed to sustainable development, capable of promoting environmental, social, and technological innovations that respond to the socio-environmental and productive needs of different territories.

Graduates of the Graduate Program in Environment and Sustainability (PPGAS) are qualified professionals with a multidisciplinary technical-scientific profile, capable of promoting innovations and sustainable solutions that address contemporary socio-environmental demands. Below are the expected characteristics of these graduates, based on the program’s vision, mission, principles, and objectives.
1. Technical and Scientific Training grounded in sustainability, enabling graduates to understand concepts and methods related to sustainable development, with the skills to apply this theoretical foundation in practical contexts;
2. Integrated Perspective, allowing graduates to analyze and address socio- environmental problems from multiple perspectives (ecological, social, economic,
cultural, and technological), using an interdisciplinary approach;
3. Graduates equipped with skills for developing and applying innovative solutions, capable of planning, implementing, and evaluating projects and policies that promote sustainability across various areas, focusing on solutions that mitigate environmental impacts and promote social justice.
4. Professionals committed to promoting socio-environmental justice and equity, engaged in practices that respect diversity and promote inclusion and community
empowerment.
The PPGAS graduate profile reflects the program’s mission to train qualified and committed professionals, ready to lead initiatives that respond to current socio-environmental challenges. These graduates are agents of change, prepared to face contemporary challenges with an integrated, ethical, and innovative approach, promoting sustainability in diverse contexts.
This research line aims to understand the structure and functioning of natural systems to support their management, preservation, and restoration through an interdisciplinary and cross-cutting approach. The goal is to promote scientific advancements that reconcile nature conservation with social and economic development. This line includes projects related to the knowledge, conservation, and management of biodiversity at all levels, with an emphasis on species and ecosystems in southern Brazil. It develops strategies for monitoring populations, communities, and ecosystems, providing input for the management of natural resources and identifying priority areas for the conservation of regional fauna and flora.
This research line focuses on studying and questioning the interactions between society, nature, environment, traditional and contemporary development models, agri-food organizations, political participation, sustainability, and environmental education. It seeks to construct an integrated, reflective, and critical perspective on environmental policies and to support the development of theoretical and practical outputs aimed at diagnosing and intervening in environmental issues in urban and rural contexts, as well as promoting regional development.

It focuses on creating and applying new strategies for identifying, diagnosing, recovering, mitigating, adapting to, and/or compensating for the impacts of human activities on environmental quality. By fostering interdisciplinary reflection on environmental challenges and their solutions, this line seeks to train professionals with a multidisciplinary vision, enabling them to implement sustainable systems that support socioeconomic development at local, regional, and national levels.
