About
Since 2002, the Vale do Taquari region has had the presence of an UERGS campus (latitude 29º14'10 "south and longitude 51º52'11" west). Considering the great vocation of our region in food production and processing, the university unit in the region implemented the Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Technology started its activities in 2013. Besides fulfilling the University's main mission, the undergraduate course in Food Science and Technology seeks the integration between scientific knowledge and local reality, based on analysis of demands and intervention projects, in partnership with municipal networks, the third sector and companies in the region.
In this regional context, the Professional Master's Degree in Food Science and Technology proposes the formation of qualified masters at an advanced technical-scientific level to develop who are trained at an advanced technical and scientific level to develop, innovate, and disseminate technological solutions for the food production sector, through a strong interaction with companies and public institutions, aiming at the interconnection of scientific knowledge with practice.
These objectives are in line with the National Brazilian Postgraduation Plan (PNPG) 2011-2020 (BRASIL, 2010), which highlights among the great challenges of Postgraduation Programs a bigger stimulus and promotion for the incorporation of masters and doctors by companies to guarantee the expansion of the Post-Graduation with emphasis on the technological and engineering areas, mentioning, in highlight, the food area.
Thus, the offer of a Professional Master's Course in Food Science and Technology fits a regional demand for advanced technical-scientific qualification of professionals, with the purpose of deepening scientific knowledge, developing creative and technical-professional skills in Food Science and Technology, to qualify high-level professionals so that they can act as autonomous researchers and professionals with a technical-scientific differential in the job market. Therefore, graduates will present tools to develop the productive and services sector based on scientific innovations and current knowledge and competencies that enable a dialogue and cooperation between the University and public and private institutions.
The PPGCTA official language is Portuguese.
The course is expected to last for 24 months, in which the master student must take 10 mandatory credits (each credit is equivalent to 15 class hours) and choose at least 10 other credits in subjects to attend.
The master student must prepare and present orally his master's dissertation, based on his obtained results and data over the period, under the supervision of the course's professors.
Students must demonstrate proficiency in English to obtain the master’s degree diploma. For international students, proficiency in Portuguese is also mandatory.
